Der erst 15-jährige Harry Joyner aus Australien hat sich seinen Platz in den Geschichtsbüchern der iQ Foil Class bereits gesichert, denn die erste Foiling Tack – also eine Wende komplett auf dem Foil – geht an ihn. Geschafft hat er dieses Manöver am Gardasee und glücklicherweise hatte sein Trainer an der Kamera auf „record“ gedrückt.
Die Entwicklung der iQ Foil Class ist extrem dynamisch und geht rasend schnell voran. Wo es endet? Niemand weiß es so genau, aber wir freuen uns darauf. Im iQ Foil geht es auch zu einem großen Teil um die Taktik und da die Wende definitiv der langsamste Punkt während der gesamten Fahrt ist, kann bei dem Manöver von Harry ohne Zweifel von einem „Game changer“ gesprochen werden. Das sieht auch Olympia Goldmedaillen Gewinner Kiran Badloe so:
„Ridiculous! It’s crazy and so cool to see the next generation of the sport pushing the limits and showing us that there are no limits! We’ve been extremely fast around the course so far, and it feels like the only part where we have been slow is the tack. Slow tacks have been limiting our strategies to some extent as we would have to consider a significant loss of meters on each tack. Foiling tacks will be a game changer. The future for the class is looking bright with the level of sailing rising fast. I have been practising foiling tacks myself, but it was not a big priority since no one else could foil through them so far. Simple, fast tacks were getting the job done. Now that I see it done, I will surely put some extra hours into practising this skill! “
